Sadhna Kumar, based in New Delhi, India has been painting since early childhood, winning several prizes on her way up at school and University level. She did B.Sc. (Home Science) from Pantnagar University, Nainital and B.Ed. from Benares Hindu University, Varanasi. Later she did advanced Courses in Contemporary Art & Painting at the University of Wales, Swansea in U.K.
Her work can be divided in two phases or genres, namely the initial 'Realistic' phase and the later 'Modern' phase. Her paintings in the initial 'Realistic' phase display her fascination with Nature (mainly landscapes, seascapes, flowers and other still life) and Human figures (Portraits) and demonstrate her command over forms, figures, expressions and interplay of moods. While some of these paintings are true to life copies of Old Masters, the others show a distinct influence of the Renaissance period of European Art.
In recent years she has forayed into the world of Modern Art and started experimenting with Abstracts. Many of her paintings in this 'Modern' phase are influenced by the Hindu mythology and mysticism, whereas the others are free flowing expressions of her moods, which get reflected in splashes of colours on the canvas. She believes that Art is an outlet for her innermost feelings and the expression of her perceptions of natural and supernatural. She prefers to use Acrylic or Oil paint but has also done some water colours.
She has exhibited her Paintings in shows/exhibitions in various cities of India (Nainital, Lucknow, New Delhi) as well as in U.K (Swansea, Wales). Her paintings have received commendations and favourable reviews in Print and Electronic media e.g. Times of India, Hindustan Times, Dainik Jagaran, Bureaucracy Today magazine and Door-Darshan, E-TV etc.
